General Expectations:

1. We try our best to make the quizzes spoiler-free.
2. The questions asked will be a mixed bag of pictures, words, music and maybe, video clips.
3. The questions will be framed to test awareness of different series, and not if you actually watch them.
4. There will be some audience questions, so even if you don’t make it to the finals, do stick around.

General Rules:

1. Most Important: provide a phone number that we can reach you easily on. We prefer to contact the selected teams from prelims via calling, and in case one of the selected teams is unreachable, we might go for the next available team.
2. Papers for answering the prelims will be provided on registration at the venue. Answers will only be accepted in the aforementioned papers.
3. Please bring your own pens to write the prelims.
4. To ensure fairness of the quiz, use of phones and earphones is prohibited. While excuses can be made for urgent calls, any phones pointed at the screen from the participants will be treated with immediate disqualification.
5. People exhibiting Disruptive behaviour, especially shouting answers, will be requested to leave the contest area immediately.
6. More information than what is asked for, is definitely admirable but who knows it might be the next question.
7. Slight spelling errors will be excused.
8. In case of disputes, QM decisions will be considered final.
9. The Quiz is meant to be fun for everyone, including the Quizmaster. With that understanding, we hope for everyone's cooperation to smoothly conduct the quiz and uphold the spirit of the competition.

Two chess masters control the game, directing cosplayers dressed as beloved characters from Japanese media. Rules:

1. Registrations should be done in advance using the google form, deadlines and additional rules are mentioned in the form.
2. All cosplayers applying should be over the age of 18, no minors allowed.
3. There shall be little or no physical contact between cosplayers. There will only be mock battles and dramatic representations.
4. There will be a pre-meetup/pre-game on 4th/5th January for Bangalore participants and the same on 11th Jan for Non-Bangalore participants.

Do I need to know chess?

No. The game masters will tell you what moves to make. Being able to count, and to distinguish left from right, will be very useful.

Can I sign up for Cosplay Chess and Cosplay Showcase?

Yes. Selection for each is separate, and the events will not clash.

Can I register on the spot?

Unfortunately, we need exactly 32 people. So we cannot allow on-spot registration.

Do I have to dress up as a chess piece?

No, this is not required.

Can I bring a real weapon (sword / spear / knife / holy hand-grenade of Antioch)?

NO. Do not bring weapons or props that can injure people. Foam props are alright Bringing or using real weapons is immediate grounds for disqualification. Also please make sure that your costume does not contain any protruding parts (trailing ribbons, etc.) that could trip or get in the way of other participants.

What if I don't live in Bangalore?

Please apply, we can make special considerations if you are selected, details are in the form. Please mention your requests or questions in the form field or reach out to [email protected] for any doubts and queries. Mention your name, which days you plan to attend, and where you are from.

Will Cosplay Chess be in conflict with other Cosplay Events?

No, all the conflict events are at separate times and are not in conflict with each other.

Description:

OpenUtau is a free and open source voice synthesiser software that is used to make songs and covers with virtual voices. The software works as a free alternative to paid singing synthesiser software like VOCALOID, CEVIO, Synthesizer V, etc. Through this workshop, attendees will learn how such softwares operate, as well as how unique voices can be made and loaded into OpenUtau.

The workshop will also include a demonstration of Hanakoloid, the first OpenUtau compatible voice with Indian language capabilities!

Pre-requisites:

• It is ideal for participants to bring a laptop to this workshop.
• If you are bringing a laptop, please try and have OpenUtau already installed.

Full Description:

From the early theatrical shorts of the 1920s to the present day, the stylistic evolution of animation can be broadly described as a struggle between two competing philosophies, realism versus abstraction. Realism extends beyond just complex character designs, involving nuanced character acting and even lighting, depth of field and parallax, whereas abstraction in animation subverts reality to try to convey a feeling to audience.

This talk explores the history of anime and animation in general to learn how realism and abstraction evolved through eras of western and japanese animation. By looking at how different directors and animators approached these two conflicting philosophies, their stylistic influences and their intentions in using a specific animation style, the talk aims to impart an understanding and appreciation of animation in anime.

In this exciting competition, participants must write the given kanji as fast and accurately as possible! ⏱️✍️✨

Rules:

1. The challenger will be given a marker and an A4 whiteboard
2. The volunteer will set the timer, and immediately present the sheet containing the kanji to be copied
3. The challenge has to copy write the presented kanji as fast and accurately as possible.
4. Missing strokes, illegible writing will count as a disqualification
5. Discretion of the volunteer in-charge is final

1. Artworks are to be done on white A4 cartridge sheets (please use >180 GSM A4 sheets to ensure it holds paint) only (A5/A3/A2 or any other size/colour will be disqualified. Canvasses are also prohibited)
2. The composition and design of the artwork must be original and created by the participant. Replication of someone else's work is not allowed, and if found will lead to disqualification from the event.

Immerse yourself in the serene art of Japanese paper crafting! Our experienced instructors will guide you through the fundamentals of origami, where you'll learn to create models using just paper and precise folds—no cuts or glue needed! Then, venture into the world of kusudama, where origami techniques combine with traditional assembly methods to create stunning spherical decorations perfect for festive occasions. Each participant will create their own kusudama piece to take home, making this workshop both an educational experience and a chance to create lasting memories.

Rules:

1. The video should consist of a montage of clips from Japan Habba 2025 - and can be across stages,booths,experience zones etc
2. In case of specific photography/videography where one individual/group is being focused on, please take their consent. Japan Habba will not take any responsibility in cases of non-adherence to consent and boundaries. This includes:
   1. Event heads,volunteers and other members affiliated to Japan Habba
   2. Cosplayers, Versus & Karaoke participants
   3. Guests while they are not on stage
   4. Representatives of all booths & experience zones
   5. VIPs, dignitaries
3. Please note that Rule 2 will not apply to on-going stage performances & seminars, floating/moving crowds,etc
4. Format:
   
   1. Horizontal 16:9 video format
   2. Time: 3 minutes + 30 seconds buffer time = 3:30 minutes maximum (180 seconds + 30 seconds buffer = 210 seconds maximum)
   3. High resolution, high quality video (480p and above) is standard, and is to be uploaded on your YouTube channel. The link of the uploaded video is to be pasted in the form.
   4. Use of Generative AI is strictly prohibited. Tools like Sora, Invideo etc are not allowed.
5. Please keep your video G-rated. Humour is encouraged, but not at the cost of:
   
   1. Comments that may be viewed as contextually offensive- references to sensitive topics such as religion,race,ethnicity,sex etc
   2. Usage of pejoratives and unparliamentary language
   3. Acts of violence and any act that is unconstitutional in nature
   4. Disrespecting the national symbols of both countries
6. Kindly ensure that the video and audio are intact at the time of submission. The link that will be pasted on the form in your final submission will be counted.

Toubashi: Chopsticks Jenga

Steady hands and sharp focus! 🥢✨ Is your chopsticks game your chounoryoku?
Race against the clock as you build a tower with wooden blocks using chopsticks in 60 seconds.
Precision is key! Can you handle the pressure? 😅

Rules:

1. The challenger has to hold the chopstick and wait for the time to start
2. The volunteer will set the timer for 60 seconds.
3. In this time frame, the challenger has to pick up wooden blocks with the chopsticks from the tray, place it in a 3x3 orientation and build a tower.
4. The challenger is not allowed to touch the wooden blocks with their hands at any moment. All blocks are to be picked up, stacked and assembled with chopsticks only
5. Most number of blocks stacked gets a mention on the leaderboard and a shoutout from Japan Habba

Tips to ace the game

1. Work on holding chopsticks properly
2. Keep your other hand in the back to prevent yourself from touching the blocks
3. If your tower falls down while the clock is running, do not panic. You can always reassemble till the timer goes off :)
